Godrays and auras are cool, but they are what I would call a phase III priority – pretty, but not necessary. Speaking personally, I feel like there needs to be a way to improvise, to be creative with the story and the obstacles while playing. As a DM/GM, I feel like part of our job is not to be stuck into a totally pre-arranged script with totally pre-arranged monsters and NPCs. Next to all the truly slick tools in Astral, this one aspect seems seriously lacking. So a handful of old-timers (or someone at Astral (hint, hint)) could theoretically put their resources together and quickly create a quite-large compendium of monsters and npcs? Could such a game then be made accessible to other players on a regular or ongoing basis? Rookies could be guided to this game and helped to pull a big list? Just thinkin’ out loud, here.
